ATLAS CAL BIPOD REVIEW

After 3 years of using them, we finally have an Atlas Cal Bipod review. These are currently my “go-to” bipods. Side by side against the original Atlas bipod, I do believe these are better and more simplified. For instance, without the panning feature, they feel really tight and less play than the original Atlas. Additionally, these are have a wider footprint, resulting in better stability.

Anyone who has used a set of the Atlas bipods can appreciate the design and rigidity. The newest iteration of their Atlas bipods are simplified from their originals. They decided to ditch the panning feature and go for the “CANT AND LOCK” only. Consequentially, these bipods are super rigid and easy to deploy. You will notice that you don’t have to load these the same way as the first iteration of them. Resulting is a faster movement while acquiring targets. Accu-shot.com

These bipods have 5 position legs ranging from tucked forward, 45 degrees, 90 degrees in both directions. This design of multiple directions for the legs has undoubtedly made these the industry standard. With the advent of ARCA rails for rifles, the bipod legs needing to move to a rear position has become slightly pointless. Nevertheless, still worth having in the off chance you need the capability. The legs are really generous and can yield just about any position you need for height. I have not ran into very many situations where these were unable to hit the desired setting while in the field. THE GOLDILOCKS

There is so much competition with the firearms industry that coming up with a product that can stand up to the abuse, furthermore meet the requirements of the end user, and leave nothing to be desired… This says something about a product. There are a few competitors out right now making some stellar bipods but have yet to be enough for me to invest in more. I purchased a pair of these for myself and my wife’s match rifles. Since the adoption of these bipods I have seen no reason to switch to another brand. We run ours with Area 419, or RRS mounts, and claws for the feet. The rubber although is what comes with them, we have found that the claws outperform them. Thus we made the change to claws almost immediately.

SEEMINGLY THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF FLEXIBILITY AND REPEATABILITY.

ATLAS CAL STABILITY

I thoroughly hate sloppy bipods. These are not in any way sloppy. If you run these off concrete in particular, you will see just how stable they are. I find that they have plenty of versatility coupled with an ARCA plate. One thing to mention, the lever to tighten the bipod needs to be stowed in a up and outward position to mitigate breaking it off from ramming the rifle into a barricade. I would also like the mention that in adverse conditions, so far they hold up fine even in moon dust and with water you can clean all the mud off. The hardware is all stainless steel offering good corrosion resistance.

After a few years of hard use, we can happily say these have never failed us and are worth the money. Stick around for a comparison between the MDT CKYE pods and the ATLAS CAL.
